Escalating tension in the Middle East is expected to drive double-digit oil price hikes. Ahead of the impending fuel increase on March 10, some gasoline stations are reportedly already jacking up prices.

One user on Facebook shared that unleaded gasoline jumped from P58.80 to P64 at a fuel pump in Brgy. Cabitnongan in San Nicolas, Pangasinan. Another posted that the price for diesel soared from P54 to P83 in a matter of three days in Mapandan, Pangasinan.

Amid the unauthorized hikes, Energy Secretary Sharon Garin has reminded the public that prices should not change until Tuesday.

“Reminder lang po. If some can follow the rules, why can’t others?” she wrote on March 7.

“[The Department of Energy] has issued advisories that any gas station or oil company will be penalized, including cancellation of permit, if they violate any of the following: no unauthorized price increase […], no hoarding. Bawal ang pagkarga sa container, drum, bote, at iba pa,” she continued, referring to Presidential Decree No. 1865.

Garin added that the DOE will issue a new price advisory on March 10.

The DOE has directed oil companies and gas stations to follow the following pump price ranges until March 9:

Gasoline RON 97/100 – P53.70 to P76.50 per liter
Gasoline RON 95 – P50 to P71.04 per liter
Gasoline RON 91 – P49 to P64.70 per liter
Diesel – P49 to P66.59 per liter
Diesel Plus – P56.80 to P74.81 per liter
Kerosene – P78.90 to P99.89 per liter.

Police are on high alert in monitoring unauthorized hikes, as per Garin.
