WIFE WEAR JANITRESS UNIFORM TO HER HUSBAND’S PROMOTION PARTY — SHE INTRODUCED HER JUST AS “CLEANER,” BUT EVERYONE STOPS WHEN BIG BOSS BOWS HER “MADAM CHAIRMAN”
Gary is an ambitious manager at a large advertising firm. Handsome, smart, but very image-conscious. He is embarrassed by his wife Tessa.
Tessa is simple. She doesn’t like makeup, always wears t-shirts, and grew up in poverty. Even though Tessa worked hard to get Gary an education, now Gary sees her as a “burden.”
That night was Gary’s Promotion Party. He was going to be Vice President.
“Tessa,” Gary said as he adjusted his tie. “Don’t go to the party, okay? It’s a corporate party. You don’t have a gown that fits. Besides, I might just be embarrassed when they find out you don’t know English.”
It hurt. But Tessa was used to it.
“Okay, Gary. Enjoy yourself,” Tessa replied calmly.
Gary left. But Gary didn’t know, Tessa had a plan. She wanted to know how far her husband would go for his image. She wanted to know if he would reject her in front of other people.
Tessa put on a uniform. Not a gown. But the blue Janitor’s uniform that she borrowed from a neighbor. She put on a cap and dirt on her face.
She went to the hotel where the party was being held.
Inside the ballroom, the employees were laughing. Gary was in the middle, bragging.
“Yes, I worked hard for this. I single-handedly increased sales,” Gary boasted.
Suddenly Tessa entered. She was carrying a mop and bucket. She pretended to clean up a spilled drink on the floor near Gary.
Gary’s colleagues looked around.
“Eww, why is there a janitor here in the middle of a party?” said a sociable officemate.
Gary turned around. His eyes widened. He recognized the janitor. Tessa!
Gary approached Tessa, shaking with anger.
“What are you doing here?!” Gary whispered. “You’re embarrassing me!”
“Gary…” Tessa said, feigning surprise. “I’m applying for a job here. Extra income.”
Suddenly Gary’s boss, Mr. Cruz, approached.
“Gary, do you know this woman? She’s been staring at you for a while.”
This was Gary’s chance. He could have said, “She’s my wife, I respect her work.”
But no. Gary chose the image.
Gary laughed out loud.
“This? No Sir! I don’t know her! I think she’s just the new Assistant Cleaner. She was begging me earlier if she could ask for leftovers for her children. You know me, Sir, I’m compassionate towards the poor.”
The officemates laughed.
“You’re really kind, Gary!” they said.
“Manang,” Gary said to Tessa with contempt. “Clean that up and then get out. You smell like zonrox. You’re ruining the guests’ appetite.”
Tessa bowed. “Yes, Sir.”
Inside, Tessa’s heart was breaking. Was I the only one like that to her? Read?
At that moment, the music suddenly stopped.
The main door opened. The CEO of Global Holdings—the company that bought Gary’s advertising firm last week—entered. No one knew him because he was a secret investor. He was Mr. William Sterling.
Everyone stood up and made a formal gesture. This was the “Big Boss.” The tallest of all.
Mr. Sterling walked in, accompanied by his bodyguards.
Gary immediately approached. “Good evening, Mr. Sterling! I’m Gary, the new VP. Welcome to my party!”
Gary extended his hand to shake hands.
But Mr. Sterling passed him by.
Mr. Sterling didn’t look at Gary. The billionaire’s eyes were fixed on the Janitress who was crouching to the side.
Mr. Sterling approached Tessa.
Gary thought Mr. Sterling was going to scold the janitress.
“Get out of there, Manang! You’re blocking Sir William’s path!” Gary shouted.
But everyone was surprised by what happened next.
Mr. Sterling bowed 90-degrees in front of Tessa. A deep salute.
“Good evening, Madam Chairman,” Mr. Sterling greeted.
Everyone was stunned. Madam Chairman?
Tessa slowly removed her cap. She untied the ribbon from her hair and brushed it away. She wiped the dirt from her cheek.
She faced Mr. Sterling. Her posture changed—from that of a downtrodden janitress, to that of a powerful queen.
“Good evening, William,” Tessa replied in perfect English. “I see you received my instructions regarding the acquisition.”
“Yes, Ma’am. Everything is under your name: Tessa Holdings.”
Gary’s jaw dropped. “W-Tessa? What… what does this mean?”
Tessa looked at Gary.
“Don’t you know, Gary?” Tessa asked. “Tessa Holdings bought this company a week ago. I own 60% of the stocks. I’m the Chairman of the Board. I’m the Boss of your Boss.”
“B-but… you’re just poor…”
“I’m not poor, Gary,” Tessa explained. “I come from a wealthy family but I gave up my wealth to find a man who would truly love me, not because of money. I thought it was you. I helped you rise. But tonight… I proved to you that you’re a piece of shit.”
Tessa turned to Mr. Sterling.
“William, about Gary’s promotion to Vice President?”
“Yes, Madam?”
“Cancel it,” Tessa ordered coldly. “Actually, fire him. I don’t want someone who treats people like garbage running my company.”
“Consider it done, Madam.”
“Tessa! Honey! I was just kidding!” Gary knelt down, crying. “I love you! I’m your wife!”
“My wife won’t embarrass me,” Tessa replied. “You introduced me as a cleaner? Then I’ll leave you as a cleaner. Good luck finding a job.”
Tessa walked out with Mr. Sterling, while Gary was left kneeling on the floor, laughed at by the people who had previously admired him. He realized that in his pursuit of a high position, he had lost the one person who was truly the treasure of his life.
