The Mystery of Mang Tomas’s Missing Dentures

In a quiet subdivision in Marikina, mornings were usually peaceful. Birds chirped softly, neighbors watered their plants, and the streets slowly came alive as people prepared for another ordinary day.
But on that particular morning, peace disappeared from one small house on Sampaguita Street.
Inside the home of the Dimaculangan family, a loud voice suddenly echoed through the living room.
“Who took my teeth?!”
The shout came from Mang Tomas, a sixty-five-year-old retired jeepney driver known in the neighborhood for his loud personality and dramatic reactions.
He stood in the middle of the living room holding a glass of water that—only the night before—contained something very important to him.
His brand-new dentures.
And now… they were gone.
Mang Tomas’s dentures were not just any ordinary dentures. He had spent a large amount of his savings to have them specially made by a dentist in Manila.
They were strong, comfortable, and shiny.
But the most special feature was the single gold tooth on the side.
Whenever Mang Tomas smiled, the gold tooth sparkled proudly, making him feel like a movie star.
He loved showing it off to neighbors, friends, and even strangers at the market.
But now the dentures had mysteriously disappeared.
Standing in front of him were the three main suspects in the house: his wife Aling Nena, his son Boyet, and his seven-year-old grandson Makmak.
All three of them were trying very hard not to laugh.
Without his dentures, Mang Tomas spoke with a funny lisp that made every sentence sound strange.
“Aba Tomas,” Aling Nena said while wiping the dining table, trying to hide a smile.
“Why would we steal your dentures? They wouldn’t even fit our mouths!”
Boyet crossed his arms.
“Maybe you just forgot where you placed them last night.”
But Mang Tomas shook his head stubbornly.
“Impossible!”
He pointed dramatically at the empty glass.
“I placed them right here before going to sleep! Someone must have taken them!”
Makmak finally giggled.
“Lolo, maybe a ghost borrowed your teeth.”
Mang Tomas glared at him.
“This is not funny!”
He suddenly lowered his voice and whispered suspiciously.
“What if a thief broke into the house?”
Everyone stared at him.
“A thief?” Boyet repeated.
“Yes!” Mang Tomas said seriously.
“Maybe someone wants the gold tooth!”
That was when Mang Tomas officially declared what he called “a full investigation.”
The Great Denture Investigation
Mang Tomas searched the house like a professional detective in a crime movie.
He looked under the sofa.
Inside the kitchen cabinets.
Behind the television.
Even inside the rice container.
Nothing.
The dentures had completely disappeared.
Hours passed, and the house slowly turned upside down from Mang Tomas’s searching.
Finally, Boyet sighed.
“Tay, maybe you really forgot.”
But Mang Tomas refused to give up.
“No! A crime has been committed in this house!”
Then suddenly, an idea appeared in his mind.
“If the thief wants food… we will use food as bait.”
Mang Tomas’s Genius Trap
Mang Tomas walked into the kitchen and grabbed a leftover piece of fried chicken.
He carefully placed it on the dining table.
Right beside the empty glass where his dentures had been.
Then he took out his old smartphone.
The phone was cracked and slow, but it still had a camera.
Mang Tomas placed the phone behind a flower vase and started recording.
“If someone comes to steal the chicken,” he whispered proudly, “the camera will catch them!”
Boyet raised an eyebrow.
“So you’re setting a trap?”
Mang Tomas smiled confidently.
“Yes.”
“Tonight, the thief will reveal themselves.”
After setting everything up, Mang Tomas hid behind the kitchen door like a secret agent.
“I will become the greatest detective in Marikina,” he murmured proudly.
Waiting for the Thief
The house grew quiet.
Everyone eventually went to sleep.
Mang Tomas stayed awake, watching the dining table from his hiding spot.
Minutes passed.
Then hours.
Nothing happened.
Around midnight, his eyelids started to feel heavy.
By two in the morning, Mang Tomas was almost snoring behind the kitchen door.
Still, the chicken remained untouched.
Finally, exhausted, Mang Tomas stood up.
“Maybe the thief is smarter than I thought,” he muttered.
He decided to check the video recording.
The Shocking Discovery
Mang Tomas sat on the couch and opened the video.
At first, the footage showed nothing but silence.
The dining table.
The glass.
The fried chicken.
Everything looked normal.
Mang Tomas fast-forwarded the video.
Then suddenly…
He froze.
On the screen, a small shadow appeared.
Something was moving near the dining table.
The figure slowly climbed onto a chair.
Mang Tomas leaned closer to the phone.
His eyes widened.
It was Bantay.
Their mischievous street dog.
The Real Culprit
Bantay had been adopted by the family two years earlier.
He was playful, energetic, and always hungry.
The video clearly showed Bantay sniffing the fried chicken.
Then—CHOMP!
The dog happily grabbed the chicken.
But before jumping down from the table, something unexpected happened.
Bantay’s nose accidentally bumped the glass.
The glass tipped slightly.
And suddenly—
Mang Tomas’s dentures slid straight into the dog’s mouth.
The dog froze for a second.
Then Bantay lifted his head.
The dentures were perfectly stuck inside his mouth.
Mang Tomas jumped from the couch.
“The dog!”
“Our dog stole my teeth!”
Chaos in the Backyard
Mang Tomas ran outside immediately.
“Bantay! Stop right there!”
Boyet, Aling Nena, and Makmak followed him into the backyard.
They found Bantay lying happily on the grass, chewing the chicken bone.
When the dog noticed them, he lifted his head.
And that was when everyone saw it.
They burst into uncontrollable laughter.
Because Bantay looked absolutely ridiculous.
The dog was wearing Mang Tomas’s dentures.
Perfectly.
The gold tooth sparkled in the sunlight.
And Bantay looked like he had the biggest human smile ever.
Makmak fell onto the grass laughing.
“Lolo… Bantay looks richer than you now!”
Boyet quickly grabbed his phone.
“This is going online,” he said.
Before removing the dentures, he took photos and recorded videos of the smiling dog.
Bantay happily wagged his tail, showing off the sparkling gold tooth like a celebrity.
Viral Fame
After carefully removing the dentures from Bantay’s mouth and washing them several times, Boyet uploaded the video online.
He titled it:
“When your dog steals your grandpa’s dentures.”
Within hours, the video began spreading across social media.
Thousands of people laughed at Bantay’s hilarious smile.
Comments flooded the post:
“Best smile I’ve seen today!”
“That dog has better teeth than me!”
“I need dentures like that!”
By the next day, the video had millions of views.
And just like that…
Mang Tomas’s missing dentures turned into an internet sensation.
The Lesson
That evening, the family sat together watching the viral video on TV.
Mang Tomas shook his head.
“All this trouble because of a dog.”
Bantay sat beside him happily wagging his tail.
Then Makmak asked,
“Lolo, are you still angry?”
Mang Tomas looked at Bantay.
The dog smiled again.
Showing the famous gold tooth.
Mang Tomas finally laughed.
“No,” he said.
“But from now on…”
He lifted his dentures carefully.
“My teeth sleep in a closed box, not a glass.”
The family laughed again.
And Bantay barked happily, as if he understood everything.
Sometimes the funniest mysteries are solved in the most unexpected way.
And sometimes…
The thief with the brightest smile
is your own dog. 🐶✨
