“I CRIED WHEN I DREW MY WIFE TO THE AIRPORT BECAUSE HE WAS ‘TWO YEARS’ IN TORONTO… BUT WHEN I CAME HOME, I TRANSFERRED $650,000 TO MY ACCOUNT AND FILED FOR DIVORCE!”
“Babe, I’m going to miss you so much,” I cried as I hugged my husband Mark in the middle of the NAIA Departure Area.
He stroked my hair and kissed my forehead. “Me too, Sarah. It’s only two years, okay? This promotion I got in Toronto is for our future. I’m going to save up so we can buy a bigger house when I get home. Don’t cry.”
My tears finally fell. I wiped my eyes with a tissue as I waved him off to enter Immigration. I looked like a poor wife whose husband had left her.
But the truth is? My tears weren’t from sadness. I was crying from the intense laughter and anticipation of seeing him fall.
Three days before his flight, Mark left his old iPad open in the room. Since his iMessages were synced there from his phone, I read everything.
He had a girlfriend. Cindy, his new “secretary”.
And to make matters worse, he didn’t get a promotion. He resigned from his job to follow Cindy to Toronto because that’s where they would be living. I read the plan that made my vision blur:
Mark: “Babe, I’m leaving on Friday. My stupid wife thought I was going to be gone for two years for training.”
Cindy: “Good! How’s the money in your joint account? Is it there yet?”
Mark: “Let me go. When I land in Toronto, I’ll immediately transfer the $650,000 online to our new account. So that even if he notices, he won’t be able to do anything because we’re already in Canada. We’re going to be rich, Babe!”
That $650,000 was what we earned from selling the franchise of the company I founded. It’s my money! I worked hard for five years, and then he just stole it to support his girlfriend abroad?!
Ever since I read that, I haven’t lost my mind. I haven’t confronted him. I’ve become the best actress in the world. I even helped him pack his clothes and cook him his favorite dish.
As soon as Mark’s plane took off, I immediately got in my car. There were no more tears. My eyes were filled with determination.
When I got home, I immediately opened my laptop. Since I am the Primary Account Holder of our joint account and I know all the security questions, I logged in.
Current Balance: $650,450.00
I pressed Transfer. I transferred exactly $650,000 to an offshore private account with only my name on it.
Transaction Successful.
Next, I called my favorite Family Lawyer, Atty. Santos.
“Atty., he’s gone. Let’s proceed,” I ordered with a smile.
“Copy that, Sarah. We’ve filed the Divorce papers (since I’m a US citizen) and the Concubinage and Attempted Qualified Theft case against him. All of his remaining personal credit cards here in the Philippines have also been frozen.”
Fourteen hours passed.
I received a call from an international number. I answered it while drinking red wine in the living room.
“SARAH! WHAT DID YOU DO?!” Mark screamed hysterically on the other line. “Why is our joint account at zero?! And why are all my credit cards declined here at the Toronto airport?! How can I get back to Cindy’s apartment?!”
I smiled and took a sip of wine.
“Hi, Babe,” I replied sweetly. “How was the flight? I hope you enjoyed it. I just took the money I worked hard for before you stole it to give to Cindy.”
“W-How did you know?!” he asked tremblingly.
“You left your iPad synced, you idiot,” I replied coldly. “By the way, check your email. My lawyer has sent our Divorce papers. Enjoy your new life in Toronto without a single penny. I hope your girlfriend will feed you there.”
“Sarah, please! Wait! I don’t have any money here! I’m just at the airport and Cindy can’t pick me up! Please forgive me, I’ll just cancel my flight!” he pleaded.
“I don’t care anymore, Mark. Have a good life,” I replied and hung up.
I was about to block his number when I received a final text from him: “Sarah, you’re so pathetic… Cindy doesn’t have the money to pay rent, she’s relying on our money!”
I laughed out loud inside the big house that was now mine. They thought they could leave a quiet wife alone. Little did they know, a woman who doesn’t say a word when hurt is the most dangerous woman when she retaliates.
THE END.
