MOTHER-IN-LAW TOOK HER GIFT FROM “POOR” SON-IN-LAW — BUT EVERYTHING STOPPED WHEN THE LAWYER ARRIVED AND SAID THAT THE PAPER WAS WORTH 10 MILLION DOLLARS
Elena is an orphan who grew up in poverty. She was working as a flower arranger when she met Jake, the heir to a wealthy family.
Jake’s mother, Donya Stella, was very opposed.
“Jake! Why are you so obsessed with that woman?” shouted the Donya. “She can’t contribute anything to our family! She stinks!”
But Jake fought for Elena. The wedding went ahead.
The reception was held in a Grand Ballroom. The guests were all elite and politicians. The gifts were piled high—car keys, jewelry, and paintings.
The time for Gift Giving arrived.
Elena approached the stage, carrying a simple brown envelope. Her hand was shaking.
“Jake… Mama Stella,” Elena said softly. “I don’t have anything expensive. But this is from my heart. I hope you accept it.”
Donya Stella snatched the envelope.
“What is this?” Donya snarled. “A letter? A drawing? My God, Elena! You’re at a High Society wedding! You’re embarrassing!”
Donya Stella opened the envelope. She saw several pages of the document. She didn’t read it properly.
“Paper?!” Donya shouted. “You gave paper to my daughter’s wedding?!”
KRRRIT!
In front of hundreds of guests, Donya Stella TORN the document in two. She tore it again until it was in pieces.
PLEASE!
She threw the torn papers in Elena’s face.
“Trash!” Donya shouted. “That suits you! You scum! Get out of my sight! You’re ruining the view of my rich guests!”
Elena cried. She picked up the papers from the floor. “Donya… this is important…”
“I don’t care!” Donya Stella was about to slap Elena.
Suddenly, the ballroom door opened loudly.
“HURRY!”
A loud voice rang out. A man in a suit, carrying a briefcase, and accompanied by two police officers entered.
Everyone knew him. He was Atty. Victor Mondragon, the most famous and expensive lawyer in the country.
“Atty. Mondragon?” Donya Stella greeted in surprise. “Are you here? Sorry for the trouble, I’m just sending my naughty son-in-law away.”
The lawyer didn’t smile. He walked past Donya and approached Elena. She helped him pick up the torn papers.
“Donya Stella,” the lawyer said seriously. “Do you know what you tore up?”
“It’s just paper! Trash!” the Donya replied.
Atty. Mondragon stood up and presented the torn document to everyone.
“This ‘trash’,” the lawyer explained. “It’s the Original Land Title and Deed of Donation of the Villarama Mansion in Forbes Park.”
Everyone gasped. The Villarama Mansion is the largest and most expensive house in the country.
“The value of this property is $10 Million (Ten Million Dollars),” the lawyer added.
Donya Stella’s eyes widened. “W-What? How could that beggar have something like that?!”
“Elena,” the lawyer pointed to the crying bride. “Oh, the missing son of the late billionaire Don Alfonso Villarama. He searched for you for a long time, Elena. Before he died last week, he left me this title to give to you on your wedding day.”
“And Elena gave it to Jake as a gift,” the lawyer angrily said to Donya Stella. “But you just tore it up.”
Donya Stella turned pale. Her knees were shaking. The “stupid” she had insulted was actually ten times richer than her!
“E-Elena… child…” Donya’s tone suddenly changed. She came closer and was about to touch Elena. “Mommy was just kidding… You know I love you…”
Elena stepped back. She wiped her tears.
“Attorney,” Elena said. “Is the document still valid even though it’s torn up?”
“Yes, Ma’am Elena,” the lawyer replied. “We still have a copy in the office. And since it’s in your name, you have the right to decide who can live there.”
Elena looked at Donya Stella.
“Donya Stella,” Elena said firmly. “You called me trash. You humiliated me. So don’t ever set foot in the house that my father inherited.”
Elena turned to Jake.
“Jake, I love you. But if you can’t defend your wife against your mother, I don’t deserve this family.”
Elena took the lawyer’s hand. “Let’s go, Attorney.”
Elena left the reception. Donya Stella was left kneeling on the floor, trying to glue together torn papers worth millions—while the guests silently judged her greed.
