2 MINUTES BEFORE INNOCENT DRIVER IS SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT — A JANITRESS SUDDENLY ENTERS AND REVEALS THE “TRASH” THAT RELEASES HIM IN FRONT OF 200 PEOPLE
THE LAST TWO MINUTES
The air inside Regional Trial Court Branch 8 is heavy. The gallery is filled with more than 200 people—reporters, family, and curious onlookers.

In the middle, Mang Lito sits on the “Accused Bench.” A 50-year-old family driver. Thin, his hands are shaking, and his eyes are puffy from crying.

The case against him: Qualified Theft.

His boss, Congressman Fernan, accused him of stealing P50 Million Pesos in cash and jewelry from the mansion’s vault.

“Your Honor,” said the Prosecutor. “The evidence is very clear. Lito’s fingerprints were taken from the vault. And P500,000 was found under his bed. He was the only one with access to the room other than the Congressman.”

Congressman Fernan sat in the front, wearing a barong, and with a proud smile. He was sure of victory. He paid the police, planted evidence in Lito’s room, and made sure the driver had no loopholes.

“The accused stands up,” the Judge ordered.

Mang Lito stood up. His wife and child in the back were already sobbing.

“Because of the weight of the evidence,” the Judge began. “And in the absence of a strong defense… I sentence you, Lito Dela Cruz, Guilty…”

The Judge raised his Gavel.

Just one more blow, and Lito would be in prison for life.

Tick-tock. Tick-tock.

The Judge’s hand was about to come down.

Suddenly the large door of the courthouse opened with a bang.

BLAG!

THE JANITRESS ENTERS
“JUST A MOMENT! DON’T LOCK HER UP!”

A shout rang out.

All heads turned. At the door, a woman stood panting. She was wearing a blue Janitor’s uniform, carrying a bucket and mop, and her hair was disheveled.

It was Aling Rosa. The cleaner in the Congressman’s office.

“Who are you?!” the Judge asked angrily. “This is a court of law! No rude people allowed here! Guard, let her out!”

“Your Honor!” shouted Aling Rosa as she ran towards the center, blocking the guards with her mop. “Please have mercy on me! Listen to me! I have evidence! Lito is innocent!”

“What evidence?!” laughed Congressman Fernan. “That’s just a crazy janitor! Let her go!”

“Don’t listen to that liar!” Aling Rosa pointed at Fernan.

Aling Rosa faced the Judge. She held up a Black Garbage Bag.

“Your Honor,” Rosa said tremblingly. “I am the janitor in Congressman Fernan’s office. Every day, I throw away his trash. But the day the money went missing… I heard something and I saw something.”

“Objection!” shouted Fernan’s lawyer. “Hearsay! What the garbage collector says has no weight!”

“Let her speak!” shouted the Judge, intrigued by the woman’s courage. “What’s in that bag?”

Aling Rosa opened the garbage bag in front of 200 people.

She took out a broken cellphone and torn papers.

THE GARBAGE THAT BECAME GOLD
“On the day of the robbery,” Rosa said. “I was cleaning the bathroom in the Congressman’s private office. He thought there was no one there. I heard him talking to his girlfriend on the phone.”

Congressman Fernan turned pale.

“He said on the phone… “Honey, don’t worry. The 50 million I lost gambling? I’ll pretend my driver stole it. I have insurance. After all, I sold the land to pay off the casino debt.”

The people gasped.

“Liar!” Fernan shouted. “Prove it!”

“Here it is,” Rosa held up the broken cellphone. “After he called, he and his girlfriend got into an argument because the woman was recording the conversation to blackmail him. In anger, the Congressman grabbed the woman’s cellphone, threw it at the wall, and threw it in the trash.”

“She thought the phone was broken. She thought I had thrown it in the dump truck. But I hid it, Your Honor. Because I felt sorry for Mang Lito. I knew he was a kind person.”

“And these papers…” Rosa pulled out the tattered papers from the shredder.

“This is the Casino receipt proving that he lost 50 Million the night before the ‘robbery’. He threw it in the shredder, but I patiently put it together.”

The entire courtroom was silent.

“Your Honor,” Rosa said. “I had my nephew, a technician, fix the cellphone. The recording is still working.”

Rosa pressed the cellphone and held it up to the court microphone.

PLAY.

A voice was heard throughout the room. A voice that everyone knew. Congressman Fernan’s voice.

“…Yes, of course! I will plant money under Lito’s bed. He’s stupid, he won’t be able to get away with it. What’s important is that I’m safe with insurance and my casino debt is paid. Lito will rot in jail, and I will be richer.”

THE VERDICT OF TRUTH
The recording ended.

The silence in the courtroom was replaced by the angry murmuring of 200 people.

“He’s a demon!”

“Shameless!”

Mang Lito fell to his knees crying. “Thank God… Thank you Aling Rosa…”

Congressman Fernan turned pale, shaking, and looking for a way out.

“That’s fake news! That’s AI! That’s just a fabrication!” shouted Fernan.

The Judge’s gavel fell.

BANG!

“Order in the court!” shouted the Judge. His face was angrily staring at the Congressman.

“Congressman Fernan,” the Judge said. “Because of this New Discovery of Evidence, and the weight of all we have heard…”

“I am dismissing the case against Lito Dela Cruz. You are acquitted. You are free.”

The crowd applauded. Lito hugged his mother and father.

“But we are not done yet,” the Judge added.

He pointed at the Congressman.

“Marshal! Arrest Congressman Fernan immediately for Perjury, False Accusation, and Obstruction of Justice. Take the cellphone as evidence. Do not let him leave this country!”

The police quickly approached the Congressman. They handcuffed him in front of the media.

“Don’t! Do you know who I am?! I will kill you!” Fernan yelled as he was dragged out.

THE END
Aling Rosa and Mang Lito were left in the middle of the court.

Lito approached and knelt at the janitor’s feet. He held her rough hand.

“Aling Rosa… I don’t know how I can repay you. You saved my life.”

Aling Rosa smiled, wiping the sweat from her forehead.

“Lito,” she said. “You always greet me with ‘Good Morning’ even though I’m not important. You’re the only one who looks at me as a person in that building. That’s enough pay.”

The next day, the heroism of a janitor made headlines in the news.

Because of the scandal, the Congressman was removed from office and imprisoned. The government gave Aling Rosa a reward.

With the reward, Aling Rosa was able to build her own small business, and she hired Mang Lito as her partner and driver.

It’s been proven by everyone: No matter how high your position, the person cleaning up your mess can knock you down—especially if the mess is yours.

that’s your stink.
