SECURITY GUARD HIDES WHEN HE SEES HIS CEO SON BECAUSE HE DIDN’T WANT TO BE EMBARRASSED — BUT HIS SON DID SOMETHING THAT MADE THE ENTIRE COMPANY CRY
Mang Carding is a 60-year-old Security Guard at Prime Tower. He is known for being hardworking and always smiling, but no one knows his secret.
For many years, Carding worked double shifts—loader in the morning, guard at night—so that his only son, Marco, could get an education.
Marco was smart. He graduated with honors abroad because of Carding’s sweat and blood.
Today was the day Marco would return. Not as a guest, but as the new CEO of the company Carding was guarding.
It was still morning, and Mang Carding was already nervous.
“Carding, fix your uniform!” the Head Security ordered. “The new Big Boss is coming. No messing around! We need to be presentable!”
Carding nodded. But inside, he wanted to cry.
What if Marco sees me? Carding thought. I’m just a guard. He’s the CEO. The employees might laugh at him when they find out that the guard at the door is his father. They’ll say, ‘Our CEO, is he just the son of a security guard?’ He didn’t want to ruin his image.
Carding made up his mind. He would hide.
The time came.
A convoy of black SUVs pulled up in front of the building. The employees were in a panic. The Managers and Vice Presidents lined up to welcome the new CEO.
Sir Marco came down. He was wearing an expensive suit, handsome, and full of authority.
As Marco walked into the lobby, everyone bowed in respect. “Good morning, Sir Marco!”
Mang Carding went to the far corner of the lobby, near the elevator. He pulled his hat down to cover his face. He turned away and pretended to be fixing something in the logbook.
I hope he doesn’t notice me… I hope he just passes by… Carding prayed.
Marco walked to the middle. He stopped.
Marco noticed that all the guards were saluting, except for the one in the corner who had his back turned.
“Excuse me,” Marco said. His voice echoed in the quiet lobby.
He pointed at Carding.
“You. The guard in the corner. Come forward.”
Mang Carding froze. He was tired.
The employees murmured.
“Hala, the guard is gone. It’s rude to turn your back.”
“Maybe you should fire him.”
Mang Carding slowly stepped forward. He was bowed. The hand holding his hat was shaking.
“S-Sir… sorry…” Carding whispered, unable to look his son in the eye.
Marco approached. The sound of his shoes was getting louder and louder.
Marco stopped right in front of Carding.
Everyone expected him to shout at the guard.
But the entire building was shocked.
Marco suddenly took off his coat and threw it on the floor.
The billionaire CEO knelt on the dirty floor of the lobby.
He held Mang Carding’s hand, which was rough and full of calluses. He took it and touched it to his forehead—he shook it.
“Pa…” Marco cried. “Why are you hiding?”
The people gasped. Pa?! His father?!
“Son…” Carding’s tears flowed. “It’s embarrassing because… you’re the CEO… I’m just a guard. They might laugh at you. I don’t want you to be embarrassed by your staff.”
Marco stood up and hugged his father tightly. He didn’t care if his suit got dirty.
Marco turned to the shocked employees.
“Listen up, everyone!” Marco shouted.
He put his arm around Mang Carding.
“Do you see this man? This guard? He’s the reason I’m standing here today.”
“When I was a kid, we didn’t have anything to eat, but he never abandoned me. He worked 16 hours a day, rain or shine, so I could study. The uniform he wore… that badge… that’s worth more than my position as CEO.”
Marco stared into his father’s eyes.
“Pa, you are my hero. I will never be ashamed that my father is a Security Guard. Because without your sacrifice, there would be no Marco today.”
“I am proud of you, Pa.”
The employees cried. The managers, who were poor, bowed in shame.
The entire lobby applauded. A thunderous applause for the father and son.
“Sir Marco,” said the HR Manager. “What are we going to do with Mang Carding? Should we promote him?”
Marco smiled.
“No,” Marco replied. “Because he is resigning today.”
“Pa,” Marco said to Carding. “Your shift is over. For life. I will work for you. It is time for you to rest and I will give you the life you deserve.”
Mang Carding took off his hat and badge. For the first time, he left the building not to open the door for someone else, but to get in his son’s car and head home to their new mansion.
Everyone has proven that true success is not reaching the top, but not forgetting the person who was the ladder that led you there.
