TROPHY “BEARER” AT CHARITY GALA TO BE LETTERED — BUT EVERYONE STOPS WHEN THE NAME OF THE “MYSTERY BILLIONAIRE” WAS CALLED AND HE CLIMBED THE STAGE
Clara is a simple volunteer at an orphanage. She is quiet, always wears a t-shirt and jeans, and has no known family in the city. The socialite donyas see her as just a “helper” of the foundation.
The Head Organizer of the annual Charity Gala is Donya Miranda, a woman who is very arrogant and loves to show off.
Miranda called Clara.
“Clara,” Miranda ordered. “Go to the Gala tonight at the Manila Hotel. We are short of an usherette to present the trophy and hold the ribbon. After all, you are used to hardship, so you are the only one. I will give you food in the kitchen afterwards.”
Clara agreed. “Okay, Donya Miranda.”
Miranda was overjoyed. She planned to embarrass Clara in front of the rich so that she would appear “generous” in disguise.
On the night of the Gala, the diamonds were sparkling. All the High Society was there.
Clara arrived wearing a simple black dress. She had no makeup. Miranda immediately yelled at her.
“Clara! You’re so slow!” Miranda yelled. “Stand on the edge of the stage. Hold this tray of awards. Don’t move. Don’t talk to the VIPs. They might get infected by your lack of focus.”
Miranda’s friends laughed.
All night long, Clara was made to be a servant.
“Get this!”
“Clean up the spilled wine!”
“Don’t block the camera!”
Clara endured all of this with her head bowed.
The highlight of the night arrived. The introduction of “MADAM AURORA”.
Madam Aurora is the mysterious billionaire who donates 50 Million Pesos every year to the foundation. No one recognizes her face.
Donya Miranda climbed onto the stage, holding the microphone.
“Ladies and Gentlemen!” Miranda announced. “Tonight, we will meet our hero, Madam Aurora! And did you know, she is my best friend! We always talk on the phone!”
Everyone applauded.
“Clara!” Miranda whispered with a wicked look. “Get down! The billionaire is about to come up. You look embarrassing, you’re ruining the view! Get out!”
Miranda pushed Clara away from the middle of the stage. Clara almost fell.
“Please welcome… Madam Aurora!” Miranda shouted.
The drum roll played. Spotlights shone on the entrance.
Everyone turned to the door. They were waiting for a lady wearing a gown and diamonds to enter.
But no one entered.
Everyone was silent.
“Madam Aurora?” Miranda called again. “Where is she?”
Suddenly someone spoke into the microphone behind Miranda.
“I’m here, Miranda.”
Miranda turned. Everyone turned.
The one who spoke was none other than Clara.
She stood in the middle of the stage, straightened her simple dress, and stood up with dignity.
“C-Clara?!” Miranda shouted. “What are you doing?! I said get down! Don’t ruin Madam Aurora’s moment!”
“I’m Aurora,” Clara said calmly.
“Are you crazy?!” Miranda laughed. “You? You’re just an usherette! You’re a scoundrel!”
Suddenly, the Foundation Lawyer and the Bank Manager walked up.
They approached Clara and bowed.
“Good evening, Madam Aurora Clara,” the lawyer greeted. “We have brought the Deed of Donation for you to sign.”
Miranda was stunned. The guests’ eyes widened.
“C-Clara… are you the donor?” a guest asked tremblingly.
Clara took the microphone.
“My full name is Clara Aurora Valdemore. I am the granddaughter of the owner of Valdemore Mining Corp. I chose to volunteer and live simply because I wanted to see where my money went.”
Clara turned to Miranda who now looked as if she was about to faint from the pallor.
“And Miranda,” Clara said. “You said I was your best friend? You said we would always talk?”
“I have never spoken to you on the phone. You are a liar.”
The crowd gasped. Miranda’s lie was the last straw.
“You used the foundation to get famous,” Clara continued. “You treated the volunteers like trash. Because of that…”
Clara took the check worth 50 Million.
“I am removing my funds from your leadership. I will remove you as Organizer. And I will transfer the donation to another group that knows how to respect people.”
“No! Clara! Madam Aurora!” Miranda knelt down, crying. “I’m sorry! I didn’t know! I’m going to lose my career! My friends will blacklist me!”
“You should have thought of that before you pushed me away,” Clara replied coldly.
Clara walked off stage. The people who had previously been disgusted with her gave way and bowed in respect.
Miranda was left on stage—crying, embarrassed, and with a ruined reputation. That night, it was proven that the true queen is not the one wearing the crown, but the one who holds the power that can change everything with just one word.
