After Mrs. Reyes removed the blanket, her eyes were immediately fixed on the deep red blood stains on the bedsheet. In an instant, the baton fell from her hand and fell to the floor. Her heart beat faster.
“I–is this… blood?” she said tremblingly.

There he noticed Lina, curled up on the edge of the bed, almost unconscious. Her face was pale, her lips were dry, and her breathing was very weak.
Suddenly Mrs. Reyes shouted:
“Marco! Marco!”
She ignored the pain in her hip—she ran out of the room. Marco arrived, clearly worried. His mother’s hand was shaking as she pointed to the bed.
“What happened to your husband?”
When Marco saw Lina, his face turned pale. He knelt down by the bed.
“Lina… Lina, wake up…” but there was no answer.
After a while, a weak moan was heard.
“Ma… it hurts so much…” she whispered softly.
Marco tried to lift her, but he noticed the blood dripping from Lina’s waist and thighs. In an instant, Mrs. Reyes’ anger was replaced by intense fear and remorse.
“Son, call an ambulance…” she cried.
While waiting for the ambulance, they sat side by side next to Lina. Mrs. Reyes kept saying:
“I thought he was lazy… I don’t know… I’m sorry…” tears welled up in her eyes.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Lina lost consciousness. The doctors immediately took her to the emergency room. A few moments later, the doctor came out with a serious face.
“Your son-in-law has internal bleeding. It started last night. If it had been delayed…” she didn’t finish the sentence.
Mrs. Reyes’ knees gave way. She sat down on the chair and held her head.
“It’s my fault…” she sobbed.
Marco held his mother’s hand.
“No, Mom. Don’t blame yourself.”
After a few hours, Lina regained consciousness. Mrs. Reyes was the first to approach her. She gently stroked her daughter-in-law’s forehead.
“Son… forgive me. I thought the wrong thing about you.”
Lina smiled weakly.
“Mom… I haven’t been sleeping. I’ve been sick since last night. I tried to wake Marco up, but he’s so tired…”
Marco’s eyes filled with tears.
“Why didn’t you tell me right away?”
“I don’t want everyone to worry… we just got married…” she replied tearfully.
The doctors explained that Lina had a pre-existing health condition that she had never told anyone about. Due to the fatigue and stress of the wedding, it had worsened.
At that moment, Mrs. Reyes promised herself:
never again would people judge her without understanding the whole truth.
Lina stayed in the hospital for several days. Day and night, Mrs. Reyes was by her side—feeding her, giving her medicine, and watching over her even at night. Neighbors and relatives arrived. In front of them, Mrs. Reyes said bravely:
“I may have been late, but I now consider my daughter-in-law a child. And she will be my child forever.”
Lina gradually recovered. When they returned home, they could feel the change in the environment. Mrs. Reyes hired a housekeeper and gave Lina a break.
One day, Lina held her mother-in-law’s hand.
“Mom, I’m really okay.”
Mrs. Reyes smiled, tears in her eyes.
“Not yet, my child. You need to rest.”
Marco smiled quietly as he watched the two of them.
“Only now has our home truly become a happy place.”
A few months later, the doctor gave good news—Lina was completely healthy and pregnant.
Mrs. Reyes burst into tears of joy. She hugged Lina tightly.
“The day I judged you was my biggest mistake—but it also taught me the most important lesson in life.”
Time passed. The house was filled with the baby’s cries and laughter. As Mrs. Reyes carried her grandson, she often thought:
If she had given in to anger then, she might not have this happiness now.
In front of everyone, she said:
“A house only becomes a home when there is understanding, patience, and love. A wrong decision made in anger can become a lifelong regret.”
And from then on, their family had a new rule—
nothing to judge, no one to blame, until someone first listens and understands.
That was the strongest and most important ending to their story—
a reminder that true appreciation for family is not measured by shouting or punishment, but by mercy, understanding, and caring.
