MY FLIGHT WAS CANCELLED SO I WENT HOME IMMEDIATELY — WHEN I OPENED THE DOOR, MY HUSBAND WOULD MARRY SOMEONE ELSE INSIDE OUR OWN PLACE!

I’m Katrina. A Flight Attendant for an international airline. I’m used to working hard and staying up late just to give my husband Mark a good life. Mark doesn’t have a permanent job, so I’m the one who supports him. I pay for the house, electricity, water, and all his luxuries.

Everyone thought we were the perfect couple.

One day, I was about to go to Japan. But because of a strong typhoon, all the flights were canceled.

“Bad trip,” I whispered. But I thought, at least I’d be with Mark. I’d surprise him.

I didn’t call or text. I wanted to see his reaction when he saw me go home early.

I took a taxi home. When I entered our subdivision, I was surprised.

In front of MY house (which I worked hard for five years), there are parked cars. There are white balloons at the gate. I can hear a loud sound system.

Is there a birthday? I asked myself. None of us had a birthday.

I got out of the taxi with my suitcase. I slowly walked through the open gate.

When I looked inside the house, it was as if freezing water had been poured on me.

My living room… which I had decorated with expensive furniture… had become a church.

There was a red carpet in the middle. There were flowers on the sides. There were guests—some of whom were even Mark’s own family! His mother, his siblings, were there, sitting and smiling.

And at the end, opposite the altar that had been built in my living room… Mark stood.

He was wearing a tuxedo. And next to him, there was a woman in a wedding gown. Sheila, our neighbor who was said to be “close” to Mark.

I heard the Pastor say:

“Mark, do you accept Sheila as your companion in thick and thin?”

Mark replied with a smile, “Yes, Father. I do.”

“And you, Sheila…”

I didn’t let him finish.

I dropped my suitcase.

BLAG!

Everyone turned around at the noise. They saw me at the door, still in my Flight Attendant uniform, heartbroken but eyes burning with anger.

“STOP THAT WEDDING!” I shouted.

Mark turned pale. It was like he had seen a ghost.

“K-Katrina?! I thought you were in Japan?!”

The guests murmured. Mark’s mother covered her face in shame.

I walked onto the red carpet. The sound of my heels was like a hammer crushing the silence.

“Japan?” I asked as I approached them. “It’s a good thing I didn’t go through with it. Because if I had, I wouldn’t have known that you turned my house into a motel and a church!”

Sheila turned to me. “Mark? Who is he? You said you and your ex broke up and this house is yours?!”

I laughed out loud. “Ex?! I’m the Legal Wife! And this house? That man didn’t even give a damn! My name is on the title!”

I turned to the guests, especially Sheila’s family who also looked like they were fooled by Mark.

“To all of you here…” I shouted. “I hate you all. Especially you, Mama!” I pointed at my mother-in-law. “I fed you, gave you an allowance, and then you’re going to treat me like this?!”

Mark came closer, begging. “Kat, please! Let me explain! Sheila is pregnant! I just feel sorry for you! Let’s not make a scandal here!”

PAAAAK!

A strong slap landed on Mark’s face.

“Scandal? You’re the ones who created a scandal in my house!”

I took out my cellphone.

“I’m live on Facebook right now,” I said while pointing the camera at them. “The whole world can see the Bigamy you’re doing. And I’ve already called the police. They’re coming.”

Hearing “Police,” the guests panicked. They ran out.
