It was a quiet Saturday afternoon in the small town of Kingston, but the air inside the banquet hall was anything but still. The hall was a mix of rustic charm, old wooden beams, and cheap decorations, nothing fancy, nothing too extravagant. The wedding of Angela Johnson and Malick Thompson was in full swing, but to the guests, it felt more like a joke than a celebration.

Angela’s family was there, her best friends were there, and a few of Malick’s people had shown up too. But what no one knew was that the man everyone thought was a nobody, the man they’d been laughing at behind his back, was about to turn everything upside down.

Angela Johnson was a beautiful, confident woman about 28, with radiant dark skin and a smile that could light up any room. She had a quiet elegance about her, but no one could deny that she had big dreams.

Growing up, Angela had always been the star of her community. She had a college degree, a stable job in marketing, and a promising future ahead. But despite all her successes, something was missing.

She never felt truly loved, at least not in the way she imagined it. Then came Malick. Malick Thompson was a man who didn’t fit the mold.

In his late thirties, he looked older than his age, with a scruffy beard, worn out clothes, and a tired look in his eyes. He walked with a limp, as though he carried the weight of the world on his shoulders. His clothes were always dirty, never matching, and sometimes he smelled like he hadn’t bathed in days.

But there was something about him that drew Angela in. They’d met a few months ago, when she had volunteered at a soup kitchen. Malick had been one of the many homeless men who came for a free meal, and though he seemed rough around the edges, there was a softness in his eyes that intrigued her.

Most people wouldn’t even look twice at someone like Malick, but Angela didn’t care about appearances. He was kind, thoughtful, and funny qualities that no one else seemed to notice. Over time, they had formed a bond, and eventually, their friendship blossomed into love.

But the road to their wedding hadn’t been easy. Angela’s friends and family couldn’t understand why she would choose someone like Malick, especially when there were so many other eligible men who seemed to have more to offer. Girl, are you sure this is the guy you want? Her best friend Kendra had asked her during one of their phone calls.

I mean, look at him. He’s homeless. What’s he gonna do for you? Angela had smiled, brushing off the comment…
