One night, while they are walking home, Marco notices that Lena is sad as she looks at the main building of Zenith Global.

Lena sighs. “Do you know, Mark… I used to work there. In the Accounting Department.”

Marco is surprised. “Really? Why did you leave? Too bad, the salary is good there.”

Lena’s tears flow.

“I didn’t leave, Mark. I was fired.”

“Why?”

“The Manager, Mr. Gomez… he forced me to sign a document with ghost employees so he could launder money. When I refused, he turned me on. He made it out that I was the one stealing. I had no fight. I was fired and blacklisted from another company. So here I am… I’m just selling food.”

Marco clenched his fist.

The company his family worked hard for turned out to be infested with corrupt people. And the woman he loved became a victim of her own company without her knowing.

“Let it go, Lena,” Marco promised (as Mark). “One day, you will get justice too.”

“That’s gone,” Lena smiled bitterly. “The important thing is, I’m with you.”

THE TEST
To ensure Lena’s honesty before revealing everything, Marco gave her one last test.

“Lena,” Marco said one day, looking troubled. “I got fired. I can’t pay the rent. I have no savings.”

If it were any other woman, he might have left her.

But Lena held his hand.

“Don’t worry, Mark,” Lena said. She took a small envelope from under her bed.

“This is my six-month savings from selling. P15,000. Take it first. Use it while you look for a job. We’ll share food. I won’t leave you.”

Marco’s heart was broken with joy and pity. Lena gave everything, even though he had nothing left of himself.

“Thank you, Lena,” Marco whispered. “I promise, this is the last time you’ll suffer.”

THE COMPANY ANNIVERSARY
The next day, Marco told Lena that there was a raffle at the company and he had won two tickets to Zenith Global’s Grand Anniversary Ball.

“We have to go, honey. What a shame,” Marco said.

Lena wore a simple dress. Marco was wearing a cheap Barong.

When they entered the hotel ballroom, the employees immediately looked at them.

“Hey, isn’t that Lena? The one who stole?”

“And who’s with her? He’s just a messenger, right?”

Mr. Gomez, the manager who fired Lena, saw them. He was wearing a tuxedo and full of arrogance.

“Oh, oh,” Mr. Gomez laughed as he approached. “You’re so fat to be back here, Lena. And you’re bringing a hungry messenger with you?”

“Sir, we’re guests,” Marco defended.

“Guests?” Gomez snapped at Marco. “You have no right to be here! Security! Get these two scumbags out! They’re ruining my night!”

The guards approached.

“Let’s go, Mark,” Lena cried, pulling Marco. “We’ll just embarrass ourselves.”

“No,” Marco said firmly. “We’re not leaving.”

THE REVELATION
“What?!” Gomez shouted. “Do you know me?! I’m the Senior Manager here! I can blacklist you in the entire Philippines!”

Suddenly the lights went out. The spotlight focused on the stage.

The Host spoke.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome… our President and CEO… Mr. Marco Zenith!”

Everyone applauded. They waited for the CEO to come out from backstage.

But no one came out.

Instead, the “messenger” Mark slowly walked towards the stage.

“Hey! Where are you going?!” Gomez shouted. “Get down!”

Mar didn’t listen.

“For six months,” Marco said into the microphone. “I pretended to be a simple employee so that I could see the true colors of the people in this company.”

He looked at Lena.

“I met a woman with a pure heart. A woman who loved me even though I had no money. Lena.”

Then, he looked at Mr. Gomez. His gaze was deadly.

“And I also found out that there are snakes in my company.”

“Mr. Gomez!” Marco shouted.

“S-Sir… Boss…” Gomez replied shakily.

“You got Lena fired because of your own corruption. You robbed my company and blamed the innocent!”

“You are FIRED,” Marco ordered firmly. “And that’s not all. I’ll have you locked up for Qualified Theft and Falsification of Documents. The evidence is already in my office.”

“Guard! Arrest him!”

In front of hundreds of people, Mr. Gomez was dragged out—the same order he had given to Lena and Marco earlier.

Marco got off the stage and approached Lena.

The employees made way. No one was muttering anything bad. Everyone bowed in respect.

“Lena…” Marco said.

“W-Who are you really?” Lena asked with tears in her eyes. “You fooled me…”

Marco knelt down in front of Lena.

“I’m Marco. But I’m still Mark who loves you very much. I pretended because I wanted to make sure you would love me not because of my money.”

Marco took out the envelope Lena had given him earlier—its 15,000 pesos savings.

“You’re ready to give everything you have for me. So now…”

Marco took out a ring.

“…I’ll give everything I have to you. Lena, will you marry me?”

Lena cried and nodded. “Yes, Marco. Yes.”

The entire ballroom applauded.
